Frequently Asked Questions

What is an IP address?

An IP address identifies devices on networks.

Public vs Private IP

A public IP is visible on the internet. A private IP is used inside your local network.

Why can the IP differ from my router?

Because of NAT or CGNAT, the public IPv4 can be shared among users.

Why is IPv6 not available?

IPv6 may not be supported by your ISP or router configuration.

Does it work with VPN?

Yes. The displayed IP will usually be the VPN’s public IP.

How does the tool detect my IP?

The browser does not expose your public IP directly. The tool queries a server endpoint that returns the IP seen by the server.
